The injury fallout from last night
Have there been any updates on any of the players taken off?

I'm guessing it's going to be several weeks for Reid and O'Brien, which leaves us very short at the back. (It's about the time of year for our annual defensive fitness struggles) Tomkins is going to be out for a little bit as well, isn't he.

Maybe Kouyate might be back for saturday? Not sure what the protocol is with a player who has been apparently knocked out. Perhaps he'll get a rest.

Re: The injury fallout from last night
I think it's shown the depth of our squad that we've had recognised defenders to come in. The likes of Man Utd and Liverpool have had to play midfielders in defence.
We have some really versatile players in the team. Centre back is a position we aren't troubled in as the likes of Kouyate (who was a very good defender), Song or Oxford can come in.
Full back spots can be tricky to cover but maybe Oxford could also do a stint there if needed.

Injuries seem to plague us every season but we aren't the only team suffering.

Who would slot in at left back if Cresswell got injured??

Job is injured, it would normally be him?

Im up to give Oxford another couple games in the team.

Real question is do we mess with Burke and recall him when he is doing great at Bradford.

Re: The injury fallout from last night
Oxford will be good enough, we all know that.

They think Burke is God at Bradford. I'm sure he will make it.

Samuelson definitely will too.

Oxford is just a kid. What is he now? 17?

The idea is he's not good enough now then he may never be good enough is ridiculous.

as long as lanzini , payet and sakho stay fit, we have such a decent squad now , it almost dont do my head into too much as we get to see whos the best of the rest...

we've never had a squad before !

Re: The injury fallout from last night
What is fucking me off is that we seem to be losing players for chunks, always seems to be 4-6 weeks. Reid simply cannot stay fit so no shock there, but it's a big blow to lose Tomkins, just need to pray that Ogg and Ginge stay fit as we are NOT entering a 'fuck all to play for' period, we have it ALL to play for.

The Oxford/Burke situation is a real tough one IMO. Are they good enough now? If not, will they ever be good enough? Do we loan them out or keep them here? If we keep them here do we play them or just let them sit on the bench every week not developing? A real tough one.

Re: The injury fallout from last night
The injury situation hasn't improved with a new manager and new training ground.

Fortunately, we've managed to get through it and our form has been good enough for it not too matter too much but it's not an acceptable situation really. We seem to have a first team player go out with injury every week.

Re: The injury fallout from last night
Burke extended his loan to Bradford until the end of the season. Unless there's a clause allowing our bringing him back in an emergency, looks like he's out of the equation.

I don't really fancy having Song at the back. If he gets caught in possession there, we will be in the shit.

So it looks like Collins,Ogbonna,Oxford and Kouyate are our CBs for the next month or so, unless Byram can also play there.

Song has played there for Arsenal and Barca, so could also fill in.

Re: The injury fallout from last night
I was gonna say worst case scenario at least Henry is back, then he gets injured tonight for the U21's and has to go off.

Alex Pike is the only other developmental fullback still at the club, the rest are all out on loan. Chambers may be an option but he's only just come back again

Re: The injury fallout from last night
There is no chance of Collins & Ogbonna both staying fit for the next 4-5 weeks so with Tomkins & Reid out already for the next month at least we are basically going to go into some games with only one recognised centre back.

The only options we have are to play Kouyate at the back put in Reece Oxford or recall Burke from Bradford if that's an option.

If Byram get's injured we are well and truly fucked as we have no other right back.

It seems like we either have no attacking players (December) or end up with no defenders.
